This authentic 1920s Vantines cast metal incense burner (marked #1211) is crafted in the form of a guardian lion (Foo Dog), a powerful symbol of protection and prosperity in Chinese tradition. Imported and sold by Vantine's — one of the most prominent purveyors of Asian decorative arts to the West in the early 20th century — this piece embodies the Chinese Revival style that was fashionable during the Art Deco period.

The incense chamber is set into the lion's back, decorated with ornate scrollwork and geometric patterns. Its cast metal body has a naturally aged patina, highlighting its century-old history.
