Coming from the studio of father and son Angel Ortiz, this burnished ceramic vase was a special find we hope will go to a special next home. Made in Tonala, an important center for ceramics in Mexico since pre-Hispanic times, the Ortiz's pieces are distinguished by (among other things) their amazingly fine illustrations, all painted with slip. This vase depicts three people, one riding a horse, surrounded by elaborate flowers and vines in a traditional pattern. It feels like an illustration out of a beloved children's book, and covers the full surface of the vase.

This vase is for decorative purposes only, and should not hold water, as it will seep through the unglazed clay. A true and special piece of traditional Mexican art and craft; the Ortiz's work has won many awards is sold in well-respected galleries.
