Antique Reverse Painting Flowers in Magnificent Gold
Gilding on glass is a time-honored technique used by sign makers, lettering specialists, and mirror artisans for centuries. Also known as Reverse Gilding on Glass or Verre Églomisé, this method creates stunning, luminous effects that elevate decorative glasswork to an art form.
Antique vase of flowers hand painted reverse glass with perhaps some mother of pearl flakes added. A fine example of late Victorian Art Nouveau era artwork. The wonderful original wood frame in an ornate pattern with natural and gold finish. Frame measures 13 7/8" x 11 7/8" and about 2 1/8" depth total; it fits artwork glass panel 8" x 10". I guarantee this is a genuine antique well over 100 years old, probably closer to 150 years old. The Walnut frame has a few very minor spots of age toning darkening and wear from age. The gilt paint but no noteworthy chips and is solid & sturdy. The painted glass panel is fine with minor wear only.
