This is the guide prepared by the New York Worlds Fair Corporation to possibly have another Worlds Fair type expo. THIS WAS PUBLISHED IN 1982
There was a proposal for New York City to host an international exposition, or World's Fair, in 1989. This idea gained traction as it would have marked the 50th anniversary of the 1939 New York World's Fair. In fact, Governor Mario Cuomo explored the possibility of state support for such an event.
The Queens Chamber of Commerce and the New York World's Fair 1989 Corporation, a group of business and banking executives, actively spearheaded this proposal. While the idea was explored, ultimately, the 1989 World's Fair did not take place in New York City.
However, the feasibility and financial implications of hosting large-scale international expositions likely played a role in the decision not to proceed with the 1989 proposal.
