Here is a wonderful arts and crafts piece of art pottery made by The J.B. Owens Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The piece is known as a "Handled Mug" and it is done in Owens deep rich matte green glaze. The mug is a nice cabinet size as it stands 4 1/2" tall and has a diameter of 4"outside handle measurement. The bottom of the mug has a diameter of 2 314".
The mug has a corseted shape with a triangular applied handle. The mug displays a wonderful pattern of embossed grapes grapes and vines on each side of the mug. I call this my Grapevine Mug. This mug has a wonderful deep matte green glaze that is pretty uniform throughout.
The mug is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or major dings.
Owens pottery started producing art pottery in 1896.
This mug was made circa 1898-1905.
