“In 1936, journalist Dorothy Kilgallen set off on an around-the-world competition to attempt to break the world record at the time. The book catalogs her journey, detailing a number of places from Germany to Manila. Charming as ever, the book is a fun, adventurous, and inspiring account. It's also interesting to hear what the world was like at that time.”
“Author's 1st published book, a compendium of articles, edited by colleague Herbert A. Spiro, who wrote the intro, submitted by 23-year-old journalist Dorothy Kilgallen to the NY Evening Journal (her employer) during her record-breaking trip (or "race") around the world. She traveled by dirigible, plane, train and ship. Foreword/tribute written by her dad, James T. Kilgallen, also a journalist, and the book's appendix includes a facsimile of a letter to Dorothy from Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as a post-journey vignette by columnist Marguerite Mooers Marshall.”
