Vintage Blue Danube Japan 7” Covered Casserole Dish w Handles. 1 Qrt.
Unique find in excellent condition from a collector’s estate sale. Blue Danube Japan is characterized as a blue floral motif on a white background. The swirls around the Danube backstamp indicates it was produced from 1977-2000.
Inspiration: Derived from the German Meissen Blue Onion pattern, but made in Japan.
Blue Danube & Blue Onion are related but not identical. Blue Onion is the original pattern, originating from Meissen porcelain in Germany. Blue Danube, introduced in 1951 by Lipper International, a Japanese-made interpretation of the Blue Onion design, specifically for the US market 1977-2000. Both feature similar blue floral pattern, but Blue Danube is a distinct pattern w its own characteristics. Pattern is well-loved & collected, so many pieces! Dishwasher & microwave safe.
